The numbers who have employment in professional ensembles or enjoy faculty positions with many of the most prestigious universities and conservatories evidences the success of our graduate students. John Will Parks IV, Professor of Percussion and 2018-19 FSU Distinguished Teaching Professor, earned the DMA degree in Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music, two Master's degrees in Performance and Jazz Pedagogy from Northwestern University, and a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Furman University. A seasoned performer and percussion pedagogue, Dr. Freshmen and sophomores benefit from the experience of a chamber winds program that is unparalleled. The undergraduate winds program has a total commitment to preparing students for the demands of the profession, including qualifying for assistantships at the graduate level. The CD is comprised of eight environmentally-focused solo percussion works and, in addition to being recorded at the Florida State University Percussion Studio, also features mem-bers of the Florida State University Percussion Ensemble.

Besides receiving exceptional instruction from faculty members who are readily available, our students enjoy the advantages of weekly master classes, frequent contact with guest artists and clinicians, and the opportunity to perform in a wide and diverse variety of ensembles of outstanding quality. The program provides four years of support and is open to high school seniors who are admitted into the Florida State University Honors Program. The Florida State University College of Music woodwind and brass faculty have an illustrious tradition of performance pedagogy.
